As a child John Glover showed precocious artistic ability, and at nineteen he became a writing master and painter in watercolour. In 1794 he set up as a drawing master in Lichfield, where he quickly prospered. Following the success of his exhibits at the first exhibition of the Society of Painters in Water-Colours (1805) he moved to London, where he was based until he emigrated to Tasmania in 1831. |
